Transforming an architectural and urban identity

The challenge

Set in the heart of London’s Ludgate development, Ares Management was looking to transform the reception of this distinctive office building, enhancing both the internal space and its visibility in the surrounding urban environment.

The approach

To create a welcoming space, we used new lighting, paving and a frameless glazed façade to blur the barrier between street and reception. The bright interior space sits above street level and is unimposing, with a simple palette of materials. The textured white tile walls contrast with the grey porcelain floor, which runs through to the external landing.

Sitting at the heart of the space, the reception desk is clad with metal paneling recycled from the original reception that is complemented by the use of new ‘boutique’ furniture and digital art.

The results

The new reception space presents a more welcoming experience for occupants and visitors alike. With improved wayfinding and refreshed furnishings, the bright space flows seamlessly from inside to out. The juxtaposition of existing and new building elements creates interest and a positive urban and architectural impact.
